What Does Your Makeup Bag Reveal? ~ Is It Time To Come Clean?

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Chances are you have a makeup bag for your purse.  Also chances are that it has been a while since you really took a look at all of the stuff you have stuffed inside of your handy, dandy makeup bag – if you are like most.

Makeup bags often become a cluttered and disorganized mess.  If you find yourself spending more time digging and searching your bag’s contents than you do applying what is inside – perhaps it is time for a Makeup Bag Makeover!

Like a good handbag, a good makeup bag, should carry the daily essential items that you will need when you are out and about.  Here are some easy tips to streamline your beauty on the go makeup bag essentials and simplify your traveling touch ups!

Schedule a little time and find a surface where you can spread everything out from inside your bag.  Although it won’t take that long, you don’t want to rush through.

You will need a cleaning cloth, or paper towels, a bottle of glass cleaner to clean the product containers, and some anti-bacterial soap for your brushes.

Evaluate what you apply daily and what you don’t.  What do you use a lot and what products you only use on special occasions – take a few moments to separate them:

Daily Wear – These are your basic colors that match almost anything you decide to wear to any given time and place – like powder to take away the shine, blush if you tend to fade, a couple of  lip colors that are universal, mascara, and a neutral eyeliner, and lip liner if you use them.

(Of course your trusty travel makeup mirror with both a regular and a 5X magnifying side, as well as a pair of good tweezers are automatically assumed as a makeup bag  must-have!)

Special Occasion – This includes more dramatic colors, infrequently worn products you purchased to match special outfits, wild colors used for Halloween, shimmer dance club powder, the free gift gloss that you swear you are going to someday wear – and anything else you rarely, if ever, wear.

Okay, it is time to face the truth ~ and dispose of anything that is out of style, old, broken, or causes irritation…………..Which I must say Lordy Day ~  I will never understand why ~ in the world would any woman seeking to be her best beautiful self – keep old, broken, stubs and nubs and/or held together with a rubber-band cosmetic products around in the first place?!?   TOSS THEM!

Look at your makeup application tools.  Are they sufficient?  Dirty?  Floating around in the bottom of the bag?  Tools left to fend for themselves quickly become dirty and bacteria filled.  Used facial sponges and those annoying little applicators that come with the product – all need to go.  Your investment in good, clean, washable cosmetic brushes is well worth the price of your beauty.

By using clean brushes you can extend the life of your makeup and brushes by eliminating the amount of bacteria and oils that are naturally transferred from the skin to the applicators.

Keeping your brushes in their own bag will keep them organized, protect the brush ends and help keep them cleaner.

Examine your piles and try to gauge what size bag you will need.  If you don’t have something big enough or with the necessary pockets – it’s time for a new bag. Best bets are ones that zip close, and have a waterproof lining – that way if something inside does bite the dust, at least the dust will implode – and not explode all over inside your totally darling handbag!

There are tons of really cute, affordable, makeup bags in all sort of shops from boutique to drugstores – I say go for the fun ones!

But Wait!  Before you pile your pile back into your bag – really take a look at each product.  Do you love it?  Do you use it lots?  Does it make you look fabulous?  If so, it can stay, if not – need to send it out the door – remember for beauty – it is always best to ‘Just say no – to so-so! And always Hello to Beautiful!’

Ridding your bag of excessive baggage will make your beauty on the go so much more enjoyable and with less stuff to sift and search for – will make it quicker too!

For those with excess product guilt – why not bundle up all of your over-bought, under-used, and all of the free gift with purchase products hanging around – and take them to a women’s shelter ~ that way you ease your guilt, streamline your beauty regime and you help another women be beautiful too!

Surround yourself with beauty!

REBOOT YOUR BEAUTY

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

You know how your computer will seemingly out of nowhere, suddenly slow down to a snail’s pace, take forever to get to a new page, be stuck in the ‘unknown zone’ or worse ~ just freeze up altogether – without warning or explanation?

And there you sit staring at the white glove pointer finger or watching the spinning ball waiting for the darn thing to load – knowing that it there is a 99.9% chance that it will not happen, and you will have give up – but yet somehow you don’t lose hope that a miracle will happen on its own – and voila all will once again be right in the land of computers – ughhhh wrong! Sooooo wrong.

Without a doubt you know that you will have to reboot it to fix it! But you don’t right away.  No, no, no, you try to wait it out – or try to trick it out.  Yet in the time it took to sit, wait, and pray that your computer would heal thy self – you could have turned it off, powered down, and started over, rebooted and got back on track a lot sooner.  blog-photos1

Your skin is a lot like your computer.  Everything running smooth and beautifully –  rosy cheeks, luminous healthy glow, supple and firm, you feel confident in your own skin, like what you see in the mirror ~ and then seemingly out of nowhere, suddenly your skin looks dry, flaky, irritated, old and saggy, foundation streaks, eyeshadow melts, mascara runs, or lipstick smears –  without apparent warning!  And you cannot figure out why – after all you didn’t change a thing.  Same skincare routine, same makeup application, same dietary program – what on earth happened and caused this unexpected and definitely uninvited change?

Your skin – like your computer, is exposed every second of the day – to all kinds of uninvited, totally pesky ‘tagalongs.’  The computer terms are cookies, untrusted sites, and temporary files – for your skin is environmental elements – such as overly heated or cooled air, sun exposure, lack of hydration, and of course, the ever present stress factor, just to name a few of the constant bombardments to which your skin is exposed.  Whatever the cause, just like your computer – sometimes your skin needs to Reboot!

Actually now is a perfect time to Reboot Your Beauty!  We are finally emerging from a season of cover it all up and entering a season of show it all off!  Time to say out with the old and in with the new – literally.  If you read my “Take A Skinventory” blog posting –  you know what to do to see what condition your skin condition is in.
